Q) What is a professional organizer?

A) A professional organizer provides ideas, support and information to help others meet their
personal organization goals. Professional organizers educate clients on how to sort through
existing clutter and maintain systems to keep clutter from coming back. Just like any job
training.  A good organizer will teach the client the skills needed to stay organized long after the
organizer is gone.

Q) What is your service area?

A) I work within a thirty mile radius of Richmond, Maine. For destinations beyond this radius, I
charge 50 cents per mile each way. For example, if the client were 10 miles outside of the
radius, the additional charge would be $10/visit.

Q) Are you going to make me throw out all my stuff?

A) Only if you want to! Getting rid of unnecessary items is a big part of the organizing process.  I
often ask clients to keep only the items that they need and/or love.  The client always makes the
final decisions regarding the disposal or donation of paperwork and/or belonging.  I can make
suggestions, but I will not discard anything without the client's knowledge and permission.

Q) Do I really need a professional, or can I go it alone?

A) No one needs an organizer, unless one is court appointed.  If you are like most people, you
have books on how to organize your life, magazines you have saved with clutter reducing tips,
and storage bins you have purchased and never used.  All of this is probably adding to the
clutter in your home!  An organizer will teach and guide you so that you learn how to organize
effectively and avoid repeating the mistakes of the past.  And, since no two clients have the same
storage or organizational challenges, A Tidy Solution provides personalized systems that meet
your specific needs.

Q) Do I have to buy containers and supplies, or do you?

A) One of the most common mistakes people make when they organize is to buy storage
containers before they sort and purge. This results in wasted time and money. After the client
and I have completed the first steps of organizing, we can discuss storage solutions together. I
can suggest the resources where to purchase storage systems, we can shop for them together, or I
can buy them for you. If I shop with the client or by myself, the client will be charged my hourly
rate plus the cost of the purchases.

Q) Do I have to be there while you're working?

A) I prefer that the client be present so that I can teach the client useful organizing techniques
that he/she can use long after i am gone.  The process of organizing will also move more quickly
if the client is there to make decisions on what stays and what goes.  I understand that most
people have busy schedules, so i endeavor to be flexible with scheduling.  I can be available
nights, weekends, or holidays.  When a client has the time, I will make time.

Q) How much will it cost?

A) I charge a set hourly rate to be discussed at our first phone meeting. The rest depends on how
big the job is, client participation, and any additional services the client needs such as shopping
or yard sales. Note: You will not be charged for any time I spend researching, planning or
brainstorming for your project.

Q) How long will it take?

A) The client and I will have an initial phone conversation followed by a personal meeting (both
free of charge) to determine priorities and set goals before any customer agreement is signed.
Project completion time will depend on the size of the job and client participation.  Many clients
find it easier to break the job into smaller tasks so they don't burn out. Others prefer longer,
more intensive, "clutter busting" sessions.  I will provide whatever level of service the client
desires.

Q) Will you clean, haul trash, and take my mother to her doctor's appointment?

A) No, no and definitely, NO. A Tidy Solution is not a cleaning service, nor do we appraise
antiques or collectibles.  While organizing, I do clean as I go.  However, the client must make
arrangements for trash and donation removal, and be responsible for obtaining any necessary
appraisals.  Upon request I am happy to provide referrals to trustworthy companies that provide
these services.
